But all is not lost, and it doesn’t have to be. Never one to see a hair problem without creating a solution, best-selling naturally derived hair care brand Aveda’s Invati Men range has been specially formulated to help stop straying strands from affecting your confidence.

Step 1: Cleanse
Grass is only as good as the pitch it’s grown, which is a roundabout way of saying it’s time to sort out your scalp. As part of your morning routine, kick-start your journey to hair that looks thicker and feels stronger with a proper, stimulating cleanse.

The Invati Men Nourishing Exfoliating Shampoo is a creamy, lightweight formula that won’t weigh hair down and is perfect for refreshing your locks. Salicylic acid derived from aromatic wintergreen plants helps remove excess sebum and daily build-up that can clog pores and prevent growth. Plus, the shampoo is conditioning, too, strengthen thinning hair in the process.

Step 2: Revitalise
A mop with a thin, unhealthy appearance is not always the result of hair loss — it could be down to dry and brittle conditions. Help support hair’s natural keratin and bring it back to life with the Invati Men Scalp Revitalizer. Its hero ingredient is superfruit Amla, AKA Indian gooseberry, which is sexier than it sounds: a vitamin C-packed, antioxidant-filled powerhouse that helps thicken hair at the root.

The fast-absorbing serum is a follicular wake-up call that delivers a gentle warming sensation as the product’s blend of plant actives increases scalp microcirculation. There’s no need for it to add minutes on to your grooming routine either, with no need to rinse, and it can be applied to wet or dry hair.

Step 3: Trim
The right haircut can make hair loss far less noticeable. This is something Michael Lendon, creative director at the Aveda Lifestyle Salon & Spa in London’s Covent Garden, often tells his male clients. And here he recommends three sharp styles for men with thinning hair.

Longer Sides
“If you have slightly curly hair, keeping the sides a little longer, around two inches, can help to distract from a receding appearance at the front. This extra length allows the hair to curl a little, creating the appearance of fuller and thicker looking hair.”

Short Back And Sides
“If you’re after a classic look and have thinner hair all over, opt for a well-groomed, tidy short back and sides. Regular cuts will be needed to maintain this look, but it is worth the investment as this shorter length style balances out areas of extremely fine hair.”

Short Fade
“If the back of your head is a thinning trouble spot, but you’re gifted with a solid hairline at the front, try growing the hair around your crown area and style it to cover the thinning spot. A short fade at the back and sides with the length pushed on the top will help disguise the problem area, but you’ll need to take your time styling to avoid the combover look.”

Step 4: Style
Finally, once you’re out of the chair, top off that fresh cut with a styling product that won’t leave your hair looking flat or weighed down. In place of heavy waxes and gels, turn to Aveda’s Pure-Formance Thickening Paste.

Just a small amount smoothed through damp or dry hair instantly adds volume to individual strands, making hair look and feel thicker. (And smell pretty good too, thanks to extracts of spearmint, vetiver and lavender.) What’s more, it won’t leave you looking like an oil slick, providing subtle, natural texture and a versatile hold.
